Mossetti 1/32 Sports Chassis
By Chris Frost
The 1/32 Mossetti sports/GT chassis that a number of people are now using has a number of interesting features. These chassis come in both kit form and ready built from Canadian raceway owner and ISRA Delegate Ernie Mossetti. The chassis has a great many intricate parts, the accompanying diagrams are intended to illustrate how the various parts move, they are not intended as accurate drawings of each part. In fact there is not just...

INTRODUCTION
A slot car generally has 3 main points of contact with the track – the rear tyres, the front chassis "skids" and the guide/braids. ( Grand Prix cars its the front wheels touching the ground rather than skids). It is critical that the relationship between the guide and the front skids is correct so that the skids work properly and give the car stability. It is this relationship which I will refer to as guide set-up.
If the...

AXLE SPACING
Axle spacers are an important requirement in car set up. It is important to set up the rear axle on your car properly so that you get optimum handling whilst complying with the BSCRA regulations. It is also important for the gears to mesh properly and spacers can help to achieve this.
BSCRA Regulations
In 1/32 Production, Saloon and Sports classes the width across the outside edges of the rear wheels (the rear track) must not exceed 64 mm. In 1/32 F1 the allowed...

Design of Soldered Joints
Chassis need to be strong enough for the demands of normal racing - and that includes accidents. (Even if your driving is perfect, other drivers can cause accidents!) Chassis will bend or break if you hit them hard enough.
Solder is inherently weak compared with the steel or brass you are soldering. So does that mean the soldered joint fails long before the strength of the steel and brass bits had been...

SOLDERING

Is soldering something that other people do but you can't?
Most slot cars are built using solder joints, whether it is simply soldering in oilites or full chassis construction. I would say that soldering is an essential skill for any slot racer – there is nothing worse than having to rely on other people to do your repair work, particularly at busy times in the racing season when their priorities are elsewhere.

Soldering is actually a very simple operation, but like...

SLOT CAR CHASSIS

Why are the cars built like that?
Some slot cars look complicated, others look simple. Why are they like that and what are the important features?
